Alejandro Larraga Schleske

The young Mexican baritone, Alejandro Larraga Schleske, was born in Veracruz in 1985, and began his voice training at the „Escuela Municipal de Bellas Artes“ (¨Municipal School of Fine Arts¨).  Parallel to his vocal studies he also graduated with a degree in graphic design from the University of Mexico („Unimex“).

His first solo engagement was in 2004 with the „Daniel- Ayala-Youth Symphony Orchestra“ in Bach’s Cantata Nr.4 „Christ lag in Todesbanden“.  Further performances followed with works by Joseph Haydn , G.Fauré, W.A.Mozart, C.Saint-Saëns, F.Schubert, R.Schumann, G.Rossini, G.Verdi and Carl Orff’s „Carmina Burana“, and in 2007 Mr. Larraga Schleske performed several roles in Ravel’s „L’Enfant et les Sortilèges“ in a production at the „Universidad de las Americas“ (UDLA – University of the Americas) in Puebla.

Mr Larraga Schleske has studied with Judit Sánchez, Zintzuni Cardel, Genaro Sulvarán, Susan Young, Francisco Araiza, Roland Herman, Silvana Bazzoni and Maria Calicchio, and is the recipient of several awards and prizes, including a Scholarship for Excellence from the State of Veracruz, a scholarship from the „Mexican Institute of Fine Arts“ as well as being third prize winner at the „Carlo-Morelli Singing Competition“ in Mexico City in 2007.

He was a member of the Zurich Opera Studio from 2008-10 where he performed roles in operas including Verdi’s „Don Carlo“ and „Luisa Miller“,, Puccini’s „Gianni Schicchi“ and „Madama Butterfly“, Oscar Straus’s „Die Lustigen Nibelungen“, Rossini’s „Il Barbiere di Siviglia“, Offenbach’s „Blaubart“ and Schrecker’s „Der ferne Klang“.  In 2009 he also performed Elviro in Haendel’s „Xerxes“, and summer 2010 he made his debut in the title role of  „Don Giovanni“ at the Opernfestival Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg.
