International tenor Jose Luis Duval has sung in some of the most prestigious opera houses, including The Metropolitan Opera, Dallas Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Houston Grand Opera, New Orleans Opera, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Washington National Opera, Baltimore Opera, Pittsburgh Opera and concert halls throughout the world.
In 2005 Mr. Duval made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Rodolfo in La Boheme and his Met broadcast debut in the same role. The same year brought Mr. Duval to The Washington National Opera for Cavaradossi.
At the Bellas Artes, he has sung Manrico and Loris in Fedora, alternating with Placido Domingo, Don José, Radames, and Calaf. He has sung Rodolfo with the Pittsburgh Opera, and throughout Mexico Calaf, Pinkerton, Cavaradossi, and Don José, among others. In concert he has sung Orff’s Carmina Burana, Handel’s Messiah, the Verdi Requiem, the Beethoven Ninth Symphony, Paulus and the St. Matthew Passion.
In 2001, he sang Pollione (Gran Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria), Pinkerton (Palm Beach Opera), and Turiddu (Bellas Artes). In 2002 Mr. Duval was invited by Placido Domingo to be his cover as Dick Johnson , to cover Calaf, and sing Ishmaele (Nabucco) with the Los Angeles Opera. Calaf followed at the Connecticut Opera and Rodolfo at the Houston Grand Opera. In 2003 he sang the Duke with the New Orleans Opera, Pinkerton with the Baltimore Opera in June, and in July, Don José at the Bellas Artes, where he also sang a Gala Concert. His next engagement was Cavaradossi with the Piedmont Opera Theatre and Ismaele with Opera Carolina. In January 2004, he sang the role of The Voice in The Forge and the Flamenco Singer in La Vida Breve with The Dallas Opera, starring Denyce Graves. In 2004, he sang Don José with the Baltimore Opera and Radames in at the Bellas Artes, where that September, he also sang Cavaradossi.
In 2005 he sang the role of Calaf at the Bellas Artes and Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera with the Piedmont Opera Theatre. In March 2006, he sang Pinkerton with Opera Columbus. In March and April 2006, he returned to the Metropolitan Opera for performances of Alfredo, and in July 2006, he sang Rodolfo in Monterrey, Mexico. He then sang the Duke of Mantua in Central Park with the Met in the Parks in August 2006, and in September and October 2006, traveled to Prague for Radames, Cavaradossi, and the Duke. In November 2006 he sang the role of Ismaele with The Dallas Opera and in 2007, he sang the role of Pinkerton with the Arizona Opera.
